Side Access Without Glass Side Windows
The EVO Defender combines two priorities that are often difficult to get in the same truck canopy: broad side access and concealed cargo storage.
Instead of bonded-glass side doors, the Defender uses solid stainless steel Gullwing doors. Tools and equipment remain out of sight, but you can still open either side of the canopy and reach cargo stored throughout the truck bed.
It is an especially practical configuration for contractors, service vehicles, urban parking, fleet trucks and travellers carrying valuable equipment.

Remove the Canopy When the Job Changes
After the initial assembly and installation, SmartCap states that the canopy can be removed from or reinstalled on the truck in approximately 15 minutes. Use adequate help or appropriate lifting equipment when handling the assembled canopy.

IMPORTANT FITMENT REQUIREMENT
2022+ Toyota Tundra Owners
Bed stiffeners, commonly referred to as J-braces, are required when installing a SmartCap or other bed-rail-mounted accessory on a 2022 or newer Toyota Tundra.
Failure to install appropriate bed stiffeners may affect the structural integrity of the truck bed and can contribute to damage involving the bed rails, SmartCap mounting system or rear flange welds.
Damage resulting from installation without the required bed stiffeners is not covered by the SmartCap three-year warranty.
Cap-it recommends the CBI Bed Channel Stiffeners for 2022+ Toyota Tundra. Contact a Cap-it location before ordering if you are unsure whether your truck is properly equipped.

What makes the EVO Defender different from the EVO Sport?
The EVO Defender uses solid stainless steel Gullwing side doors to conceal cargo from view. The EVO Sport uses bonded-glass Gullwing doors with vent windows for a more open, premium appearance.
What is the difference between the EVO Defender and Edge Defender?
The EVO Defender uses SmartCap’s original Gullwing-door architecture. The newer Edge Defender uses longer full-length side doors that extend farther toward the cab. Vehicle availability determines which generation is offered.
Are the Defender side doors made from stainless steel?
Yes. The side doors and exterior canopy panels are formed from automotive-grade stainless steel.
Are the Gullwing doors lockable?

Is the EVO Defender waterproof?
SmartCap describes its correctly installed sealing system as weatherproof. As with any truck canopy, some moisture or dust intrusion may occur depending on installation, truck-bed construction, tailgate sealing, road conditions and vehicle use.
Can the canopy be removed?
Yes. After its initial assembly and installation, SmartCap states that the canopy can be removed or reinstalled in approximately 15 minutes. Multiple people or suitable lifting equipment may be required.
Does it arrive assembled?
No. SmartCap is a modular canopy system requiring assembly and vehicle installation. Professional installation is recommended for correct alignment, sealing, wiring and clamping.
Why is my vehicle not listed?
SmartCap is transitioning many applications to the newer Edge Defender. Your truck may now require an Edge Series application rather than the EVO Defender shown on this page.
Are bed stiffeners required on a Toyota Tundra?
Appropriate bed stiffeners are required for 2022 and newer Toyota Tundra applications before installing the SmartCap.
