Alu-Cab ModCAP Drive-Off Base
Turn your canopy into a removable camper, and get your truck back when the adventure is over.
A New Chapter for Alu-Cab Campers
The ModCAP Drive-Off Base allows a compatible Alu-Cab ModCAP or Canopy Camper system to be removed from the truck as a self-contained camper.
Camp with it. Build into it. Leave it set up when you need the truck. Then load it back on for the next adventure.
The Alu-Cab ModCAP Drive-Off Base changes what a truck canopy can become.
Installed beneath a compatible Alu-Cab canopy or camper, the base creates a solid floor and modular foundation that allows the complete unit to be removed from the truck bed. Your canopy can remain a secure cargo solution, become a custom-built camper, or support a fully equipped ModCAP Canopy Camper or Family Camper configuration.
When you want the truck for work, hauling or everyday driving, remove the camper system and leave it behind. When adventure calls again, load it back onto the pickup and go.
One truck. One modular camper system. Far fewer compromises.
Why the Drive-Off Base Matters
Until now, choosing an integrated canopy camper often meant accepting that the camper would remain attached to the truck. That works brilliantly on the trail, but it can be less convenient when the pickup is also your daily driver, work truck or only vehicle.
The Drive-Off Base separates those two roles.
- Use your truck independently when the camper is not required
- Leave your basecamp established while using the truck to explore or collect supplies
- Build a removable camper from a compatible ModCAP Canopy
- Convert an existing compatible Canopy Camper into a drive-off system
- Keep a camper pre-packed and ready between trips
- Move the system to another compatible truck in the future, subject to fitment
- Preserve the everyday usefulness of your pickup
It Does Not Just Convert a Camper
Pair the Drive-Off Base with a compatible ModCAP Canopy and you have the foundation for a custom removable camper build.
Add power, refrigeration, water, drawers, storage or camp equipment using the integrated mounting rails. Keep it simple, build it in stages, or create a fully equipped off-grid setup around the way you travel.
Compatible Alu-Cab Systems
The Drive-Off Base is designed to work beneath compatible Alu-Cab canopy and camper platforms, giving each one a different path to removable camper capability.
ModCAP Canopy
Start with a modular aluminum work or adventure canopy, add the Drive-Off Base, then build the interior around your own needs. This creates a blank-canvas camper platform with secure storage and full-height rear access.

ModCAP Canopy Camper
Add the base beneath a compatible two-person ModCAP Canopy Camper to create an integrated sleeping and storage system that can be removed from the truck.

ModCAP Family Camper
Pair the base with a compatible ModCAP Family Camper and you have a removable four-person family camper with genuine living space above and a modular storage area below.
Alu-Cab Canopy Camper
Compatible Canopy Camper systems can also gain drive-off capability, providing a way to leave the camper at home or at camp while returning the truck to independent use.
Compatibility must be confirmed: The Drive-Off Base does not make every Alu-Cab canopy or camper universally interchangeable. The camper size, truck bed, mounting system and vehicle application must all be verified before ordering.
Currently Available for Mid-Size 5-Foot Beds
The first Drive-Off Base offered through Cap-it is the Double-Cab model, designed for compatible mid-size pickup trucks with approximately 5-foot beds.
Potential applications may include:
- Toyota Tacoma Double Cab with 5-foot bed
- Ford Ranger SuperCrew with 5-foot bed
- Chevrolet Colorado Crew Cab with 5-foot bed
- GMC Canyon Crew Cab with 5-foot bed
- Nissan Frontier Crew Cab with 5-foot bed
- Other compatible mid-size applications, subject to physical verification
Important: The current Canadian offering is the Double-Cab base only. Extra-Cab, longer-bed and full-size applications are in development and are not yet available to order through this listing.
Vehicle compatibility cannot be determined by model name alone. The Drive-Off Base must physically fit within the truck bed, and the complete canopy or camper system must match the base and vehicle application.
More Than a Floor
The Drive-Off Base is the structural foundation that connects the camper system to the truck and provides a usable interior floor when the unit is removed.
- Durable vinyl flooring creates a clean, practical interior surface
- Integrated T-slot rails support modular interior equipment
- Four side storage pockets keep smaller gear organised and accessible
- Quick-mount M12 eye nuts simplify securing and releasing the system
- Solid base for refrigerators, drawers, water tanks and storage systems
- Designed as part of the Alu-Cab ModCAP and Canopy Camper ecosystem
Build the Interior Around Your Adventures
Integrated T-slot rails give you a flexible foundation for mounting equipment without treating the interior as a fixed, one-purpose layout.
Depending on your camper and intended use, the base can support a build incorporating:
- Portable refrigerator or fridge slide
- Drawer and storage systems
- Water tank and pump
- Battery and power-management equipment
- Recovery gear and tool storage
- Removable camp kitchen equipment
- Custom cabinetry or modular cargo fixtures
Every permanent addition affects payload, balance and ease of removal. Weight distribution, service access, ventilation and total system weight should be considered before beginning a custom build.
From Monday Morning to Friday Night
Remove the camper and use your truck for work during the week.
Load the system back on when the weekend arrives, with your shelter, storage and camp equipment already packed together and ready to leave.
Why We Think This Product Changes Everything
Alu-Cab has always built modular products, but the Drive-Off Base connects those ideas in a completely new way.
A ModCAP Canopy can begin as a work-truck cargo system, later gain an integrated tent, and now become a removable camper. A Canopy Camper can retain its expedition capability without permanently occupying the pickup. A Family Camper can become a standalone family basecamp while the truck is used separately.
It means the original investment can evolve instead of being replaced.
What begins as a canopy does not have to remain only a canopy. What becomes a camper does not have to remain permanently attached to the truck.
This is the modular promise of ModCAP, finally carried all the way to the truck bed.
Drive-Off Capability Without a Dedicated Camper Truck
A permanently installed canopy camper can be the right solution for a dedicated adventure vehicle. The Drive-Off Base is for customers who want that capability without committing the truck to one purpose year-round.
Once removed and properly supported, the camper can remain at home, in storage or at camp while the pickup is driven independently.
Suitable lifting and support equipment is required to safely remove, lower and store the complete camper assembly. The Drive-Off Base does not include support legs or lifting equipment unless specifically stated in your written quote.
The base makes the camper removable. The correct support system makes removal safe. Cap-it will help determine the complete equipment required for your specific build.

The Drive-Off Base is designed to support compatible products across the ModCAP family, including the Family Camper. Final configuration and vehicle fitment must be verified before ordering.
Can it be used with an Alu-Cab Canopy Camper?
Yes, compatible Canopy Camper models are included within the intended product range. The specific camper and truck application must still be confirmed.
Which size is currently available?
The current Cap-it offering is the Double-Cab model for compatible mid-size trucks with approximately 5-foot beds. Other sizes are in development but are not yet available through this listing.
Does the base include support legs?

Why Buy From Cap-it?
Since 1977, Cap-it has helped Canadians build trucks for work, travel and adventure. As Canada's Home for Alu-Cab, we provide product guidance, vehicle fitment support, professional installation and access to the complete ModCAP ecosystem.
The Drive-Off Base is not a standalone accessory that can be selected by dimensions alone. The truck, canopy, camper, mounting system, payload, interior build and lifting equipment all need to work together. Our role is to help configure the complete system correctly from the beginning.
