The Wild Land Desert Cruiser 130 V2 is built for travellers who want the comfort of a premium rooftop tent without sacrificing speed, durability or everyday usability.
Its slim aluminium hard shell protects the tent during travel and opens quickly using Wild Land’s patented gas-strut-assisted mechanism. Once deployed, the Desert Cruiser creates a comfortable two-person sleeping space with a full 7 cm high-density foam mattress, generous headroom, durable weather-ready fabrics and useful interior power access.
Whether you are escaping for a weekend, travelling logging roads through British Columbia or building a complete off-grid overland setup, the Desert Cruiser 130 V2 is designed to make camp easier from the moment you arrive.
Open it. Settle in. Wake up somewhere better.
Why the Desert Cruiser Works
The Desert Cruiser combines the fast deployment of a hard-shell rooftop tent with the comfort and usable space required for real travel.
Its wedge-style design opens into a sleeping area measuring approximately 200 cm long by 130 cm wide, while providing up to approximately 125 cm of interior height. That gives two adults room to sleep comfortably without carrying the size and complexity of a larger fold-out family tent.
- Patented gas-strut-assisted opening for fast setup
- Black aluminium honeycomb hard shell for travel protection
- 7 cm high-density foam mattress for improved sleeping comfort
- Comfortable two-person sleeping area
- Approximately 125 cm of maximum interior height
- Durable coated fabrics for changing weather
- Integrated interior power socket
- Two exterior shoe bags included
- Foldable aluminium ladder
- Optional integrated 300W solar package
- Optional enclosed annex available
The Sweet Spot in the Wild Land Lineup
The Desert Cruiser 130 V2 delivers more mattress comfort and interior volume than Wild Land’s most compact tents, while remaining slimmer, lighter and easier to manage than a large family-style rooftop tent.
Choose Your Desert Cruiser Configuration
The Desert Cruiser 130 V2 is available in two configurations. Choose the straightforward Tent Only package or add an integrated roof rack and 300W solar panel for extended off-grid travel.
Tent Only
Includes the complete Desert Cruiser 130 V2 rooftop tent, mattress, ladder, shoe bags, ladder storage bag and standard mounting equipment. This is the right choice when you already have a portable solar solution or do not require roof-mounted solar.
Tent + Integrated 300W Solar Package
Adds a custom roof rack system and integrated 300W solar panel above the closed tent, creating a clean, permanent solar solution for compatible batteries and portable power systems.
The roof rack and solar panel are included only when the Tent + Integrated 300W Solar Package variant is selected.
Integrated 300W Solar Package
Cleaner power. Less campsite setup. More time off-grid.
For travellers who spend multiple days away from serviced campsites, the optional integrated solar package turns the Desert Cruiser into a mobile solar platform.
Rather than unpacking, positioning and reconnecting a portable panel every time you stop, the 300W panel remains mounted to a custom rack above the closed tent. It can collect solar energy while the vehicle is parked and, when conditions allow, while travelling.
Connect the panel to a compatible solar charge controller, battery bank or portable power station to help support equipment such as a 12V fridge, campsite lighting, phones, cameras and other off-grid essentials.
- Integrated 300W solar panel
- Custom roof rack and supporting brackets included
- Clean permanent installation above the closed tent
- No loose portable panel to deploy at every campsite
- Ideal for compatible auxiliary batteries and portable power stations
- Helps support fridges, lighting and device charging
Important: the solar panel produces electrical energy but does not store it. A compatible solar charge controller, battery or portable power station is required and is sold separately unless specifically stated otherwise.
Solar Panel Specifications
| Solar Output | 300W |
| Panel Dimensions | Approximately 1359 x 1154 mm |
| Panel Weight | Approximately 7.0 kg |
| Peak Voltage | 24.5V |
| Peak Current | 12.3A |
| Open Circuit Voltage | 28.8V |
| Short Circuit Current | 12.9A |
Aluminium Hard-Shell Construction
The Desert Cruiser uses a black aluminium honeycomb top cover to protect the folded tent during travel.
Aluminium provides a durable exterior surface while the honeycomb construction helps balance structural strength with manageable weight. The low closed profile also helps the tent sit neatly above a properly rated truck, SUV, canopy or rack system.
- Black aluminium honeycomb top cover
- Strong protective travel shell
- Slim approximately 20 cm closed tent height
- Suitable for compatible trucks, SUVs, canopies and rack systems
- Custom roof rack available with the solar configuration
Built for the Road Between Campsites
The hard shell protects the sleeping area while you travel, then the gas-strut-assisted mechanism helps transform it into camp when the day is done.
Fast Gas-Strut-Assisted Setup
Arriving at camp should not mean spending the next half-hour assembling your shelter.
Wild Land’s patented gas-strut-assisted mechanism helps lift and support the hard shell as the tent opens. Once deployed, adjust the ladder, arrange your bedding and settle in.
- Gas-strut-assisted opening
- No loose support poles required for the main tent body
- Foldable aluminium ladder included
- Simple repeatable setup
- Fast pack-down when it is time to move
A Proper Mattress, Not an Afterthought
The Desert Cruiser includes a 7 cm high-density foam mattress with an insulated cotton cover.
Beneath the mattress, a 7 mm polypropylene support sheet helps provide a more consistent sleeping surface. Together, they create a substantial sleep system intended for repeated nights on the road, not simply occasional emergency use.
- 7 cm high-density foam mattress
- Insulated cotton mattress cover
- 7 mm polypropylene support sheet
- No inflation required
- No overnight air-pressure adjustment
- Comfortable sleeping area for two adults
Cap-it Take: mattress comfort is one of the biggest differences between tolerating a rooftop tent and genuinely enjoying it. The Desert Cruiser’s 7 cm foam mattress is one of its strongest everyday features.
Spacious Sleeping for Two
The Desert Cruiser opens to create an interior measuring approximately 200 cm long, 130 cm wide and 125 cm high.
The 130 cm width provides a comfortable sleeping area for two adults, while the elevated roof creates useful sitting room and a more open interior than a low-profile clamshell tent.
- Approximately 200 cm of sleeping length
- Approximately 130 cm of sleeping width
- Approximately 125 cm maximum interior height
- Designed for two occupants
- Comfortable for couples or spacious solo travel
Interior Power Access
The Desert Cruiser includes an interior power socket, giving you a convenient connection point for compatible lighting, device charging and camp accessories.
Your final power configuration will depend on the battery, power station, wiring and connectors used in your vehicle or campsite setup.
- Integrated interior power socket
- Convenient access from the sleeping area
- Suitable for integration with compatible auxiliary power systems
- Pairs naturally with the optional 300W solar package
Exterior Shoe Storage
Two exterior shoe bags are included, giving wet or dirty footwear a dedicated place outside the sleeping area.
It is a simple feature, but one that makes a major difference when you are climbing into the tent after a muddy trail, rainy campsite or dusty day on the road.
- Two exterior shoe bags included
- Keeps footwear outside the sleeping area
- Helps reduce dirt, water and campsite debris inside the tent
- Conveniently positioned near the ladder entrance
Built for Changing Weather
The Desert Cruiser combines durable coated fabrics with its aluminium hard shell to provide protection through changing camp conditions.
- Fly: 210D rip-stop polyoxford, PU 3000 mm, silver coated
- Inner tent: 190 g rip-stop polycotton, PU 2000 mm
- Floor: 600D polyoxford, PU 5000 mm
- Top cover: black aluminium honeycomb panel
- Frame: Wild Land patented gas-strut-assisted mechanism
- Ladder: foldable aluminium construction
Waterproof ratings apply to the specified materials under controlled testing. Proper setup, fabric care and fully closing the tent before travel remain essential for long-term performance.
Tent care: air the tent, mattress and bedding regularly, particularly after rain, cold nights or extended storage. Condensation can form in any enclosed tent, even when it was packed away dry.
Optional Desert Cruiser Annex
Add the optional Wild Land annex to create a large enclosed ground-level room beside the vehicle.
The annex is useful for changing clothes, storing equipment, creating a sheltered sitting area or giving pets a protected place at camp. It includes the back panel and telescopic aluminium support poles but does not include a floor.
- Creates a large enclosed ground room
- Useful for changing, storage or extended camp stays
- 210D rip-stop polyoxford construction
- PU 2000 mm coating with silver finish
- Telescopic aluminium support poles
- Back panel included
- Floor not included
Approximate annex size: (265 + 75) x 375 x 210 cm

Vehicle Fitment and Roof Capacity
At approximately 70 kg for the tent plus 6 kg for the ladder, the Desert Cruiser requires a properly rated mounting system.
It may be suitable for select pickup trucks, SUVs, truck canopies, vans and trailers, but every installation must be evaluated based on the vehicle, available mounting space, crossbar spacing and total load capacity.
- Suitable for select mid-size and full-size trucks
- Suitable for select SUVs
- Compatible with properly rated truck canopies
- May be installed on compatible vans or trailers
- Requires a load-rated rack or mounting platform
- Vehicle payload and centre of gravity must be considered

Important Fitment Note
The tent, ladder, occupants, solar package, mounting hardware and all additional rooftop equipment must remain within every applicable vehicle and component rating. The lowest rating within the complete system governs the finished installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the two product variants?
Tent Only includes the complete Desert Cruiser 130 V2 and its standard equipment. Tent + Integrated 300W Solar Package adds a custom roof rack and permanently mounted 300W solar panel.
Does the solar package include a battery?
No. The solar panel generates electricity but does not store it. A compatible charge controller, battery system or portable power station is required.
Can the solar panel charge while I am driving?
The roof-mounted panel may generate power whenever it receives sufficient sunlight, including while the vehicle is travelling. Actual output depends on sunlight, shading, orientation, temperature and the connected electrical system.
Is the integrated solar package worth adding?
It is a strong option for customers who regularly camp off-grid, run a 12V fridge or want to reduce reliance on portable panels. Customers who already own a suitable portable solar system may prefer the Tent Only configuration.
How quickly does the Desert Cruiser set up?
The gas-strut-assisted mechanism is designed for fast deployment. Actual setup time depends on the installation height, ladder adjustment, bedding and campsite conditions.
How many people does the Desert Cruiser sleep?
The Desert Cruiser 130 V2 is designed for two occupants and provides an inner sleeping area of approximately 200 x 130 cm.
Does the tent include a mattress?
Yes. It includes a 7 cm high-density foam mattress with an insulated cotton cover and a 7 mm polypropylene support sheet.
Can bedding remain inside when the tent is closed?
Some thin, neatly arranged bedding may remain inside, but available storage depends on the bedding thickness and how evenly it is packed. Do not force the shell closed over bulky pillows or duvets.
Does the tent include interior charging ports?
The current Desert Cruiser specification includes one interior power socket. The exact charging accessories available will depend on the power source and adapters connected to your installation.
Is an annex available?
Yes. An optional Desert Cruiser annex is available for customers who want an enclosed ground-level changing, storage or living area.
Will the Desert Cruiser fit my vehicle?
The tent may fit many properly equipped trucks, SUVs, canopies, vans and trailers. Compatibility depends on mounting space, crossbar spacing and the load ratings of the complete vehicle and rack system.
Can factory crossbars support the tent?
Some factory crossbars may be appropriate, while others may not have sufficient capacity, width or mounting position. Confirm all dynamic and static ratings before installation.
Is professional installation available?
Yes. Participating Cap-it locations can confirm fitment and professionally install the Desert Cruiser.
Who is the Desert Cruiser best suited for?
It is ideal for one or two campers who want a fast-opening aluminium hard-shell tent, a substantial foam mattress and the option to integrate serious solar capability into their rooftop setup.
