The Alu-Cab ModCAP Tailgate Edition Camper takes the modular aluminium architecture of the ModCAP system and builds it around something many truck owners simply don't want to give up: their factory tailgate.
You still get the secure aluminium canopy structure. You still get an integrated elevated sleeping system. You still get the rugged construction, side access and modularity that make ModCAP such a compelling overland platform.
But when it's time to get into the bed, you drop the tailgate just like you always have. Simple. Familiar. Useful.

The standard Alu-Cab ModCAP Canopy Camper replaces the factory tailgate with a full-height rear camper door. It's an excellent design, especially for customers who want walk-in rear access and a more integrated camper experience.
The Tailgate Edition takes a different approach.
Your original tailgate remains part of the truck. Drop it to load bikes. Sit on it at camp. Use it as a work surface. Slide cargo across it. Keep the familiar bed access your pickup was designed around.
You give up the full-height walk-in rear entrance, but gain a simpler configuration that preserves more of the everyday utility of the truck underneath it.

During the week, the ModCAP Tailgate Edition gives you a secure, enclosed aluminium truck bed with large side access and the everyday functionality of your factory tailgate.
When the pavement ends, your sleeping system is already above you. No separate rooftop tent sitting on top of a conventional canopy. No ground tent packed into the bed. The canopy and sleeping system are engineered as one modular Alu-Cab platform.

Coming to Canada
Cap-it is now accepting pre-orders for released ModCAP Tailgate Edition configurations.
Current estimated Canadian arrival is Q4 2026 / Q1 2027. Timing remains subject to Alu-Cab production schedules, international freight and final vehicle-specific availability.
Additional Mid-Size and Full-Size configurations are expected to follow. Configurations that have not yet been released for production will appear as unavailable until ordering opens.

What is the difference between the ModCAP Tailgate Edition and the standard ModCAP Canopy Camper?
The biggest difference is rear access. The standard ModCAP Canopy Camper replaces the factory tailgate with an integrated rear door, creating walk-in access to the camper. The ModCAP Tailgate Edition retains your truck's factory tailgate. You give up walk-in rear access, but keep the familiar function, simplicity and utility of the original pickup tailgate while still gaining an integrated Alu-Cab camper and sleeping system.
Does the ModCAP Tailgate Edition keep my factory tailgate?
Yes. That's the defining feature of the Tailgate Edition. The system is designed around retaining the factory pickup tailgate rather than replacing it with the walk-in rear door used on the standard ModCAP Canopy Camper.
Can I order the ModCAP Tailgate Edition with side windows?
Yes. The camper can be configured with either Solid Side Panels or Side Windows. Choose the configuration that best suits how you use your truck, whether your priority is enclosed storage and security or additional visibility and natural light.
What is the difference between the 2-Sleeper and Family 4-Sleeper configurations?
The 2-Sleeper Tent is designed around a two-person sleeping setup, while the larger Family 4-Sleeper Tent expands the sleeping system for families or customers who need additional sleeping capacity. Each configuration uses its own Alu-Cab tent and corresponding filler and mounting kit, all of which are included in the configured camper price.
Which trucks currently have confirmed ModCAP Tailgate Edition fitments?
The first officially released configuration is for Mid-Size trucks with 5' beds. Current vehicle applications include:

Will the ModCAP Tailgate Edition be available for full-size trucks and longer beds?
Additional Mid-Size 6', Full-Size 5.5' and Full-Size 6.5' configurations are planned, but vehicle-specific production applications have not yet been officially released. These configurations may appear as options on this page but cannot be ordered until the applicable Alu-Cab systems become available.
Is the vehicle-specific mounting hardware included?
Yes. The listed camper price includes the components required for the selected configuration, including the appropriate base, sleeping system, tent filler and mounting components, and the applicable vehicle-specific mounting bracket. When will the Alu-Cab ModCAP Tailgate Edition be available in Canada?
Current estimated Canadian availability for the first released applications is Q4 2026 to Q1 2027. Timing is subject to production, international shipping and final Canadian availability. Additional truck and bed-size applications are expected to follow as Alu-Cab releases them for production.
